Testimonials

I love Crossfit Bishop. I am the kind of girl that isn't content with 30 minutes of "cardio" on a bike, or a step aerobics class. I like the full body burn, the opportunity to compete, and most of all the surprise that comes with doing something you didn't think you could do. Crossfit is the master at all of this. Crossfit breaks your body down so it can build back up into a better stronger one. It challenges your mind when you do three more reps than you thought possible. And it teaches your heart all you are capable of. Colin is a great instructor. I’ve never had a personal trainer but it is awesome having someone watching your form so closely, it makes you feel safe knowing that someone is looking out for you during challenging exercises so that you can push yourself a little further. Crossfit Bishop has got Colins intensity and attention to detail, Mollys inspiring fitness and kind spirit, a group of incredibly fun and fit people who are as psyched as you and an adorable baby too. Its certainly one of my favorite places to be in Bishop!!

Crossfit Works!  As a young buck, flush with time to get out in the mountains, I felt strongly that the best training for climbing and backcountry skiing was... climbing and backcountry skiing.  Now I'm by no means the busiest guy, nor do I have the most sedentary job, but I've felt the pinch of time in recent months.  I've spent many days over these busy months with Colin at Crossfit Bishop.   Colin energizes the classes, exudes knowledge and confidence, and successfully walks the fine line between motivation and all out pushing.  I just had my first opportunity in months to test my new Crossfitted bod'.  I can say that the total body training and the fresh, varied workouts make a huge difference!  The strength and endurance gains from Crossfit really shined on a recent one-day, monstrous exploratory ski tour in the High Sierra. I look forward to continuing to train and continuing to express strength gains.

I really appreciate all the dedication, knowledge, and energy you and Molly are so generous in giving. Your trained, focused attention and interest in supporting not only my fitness goals, but maximizing the quality of my performance, keeps me engaged and committed. It is inspiring to be around and has been a great catalyst fueling a new level in my health and fitness. It has always been a priority for me, but sometimes the conditions just have to be right to step up the quality and intensity. I suppose much like a CF workout...So, really, thanks. You guys are providing something very worthy to the Bishop community.

CrossFit is a different kind of fitness program that requires much more than gripping a bar and hammering out concentration curls. The complexity and variety of the movements, coupled with the intensity makes for a compelling system of improving one's physical and mental fitness. This is not accomplished without expert, careful, selfless coaching which Colin Broadwater provides.

Hey Folks!!!  We will be making a significant change to how we get new recruits started in our program here at CrossFit Bishop.  We'll be expecting a bigger commitment to learning from new athletes, while giving more back in return in the way of personalized coaching.  A minimum of 10 one on one sessions (not including our free introduction) will now be required before entering into our group classes, and we will recommend a total of 15 for most.  There are several reasons for this change, but the big one is that we have very, very high expectations of people and we want to give everyone willing to take on the challenge, the best chance to succeed at achieving their health and fitness goals!

To get this new intro. program started, I will be dropping the Intro to CrossFit personal training rate down from $60/hr to $50/hr to anyone who starts up between now and the end of June!!!  Starting July 1st, the rate will go back to $60/hour.  My normal personal training rate is $70/hr, so realize that this is actually a really sweet deal!!!  I know that dropping $500-$600 all at once into a fitness program may sound like a lot, but don't forget what health and fitness means to all of us.  We all have to put ourselves at the top of our priority list at some point, and I guarantee that you will not find a better all around health and fitness program anywhere in the world than CrossFit!!!

On another note, I know I've said it before, but I'll say it again...  Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone who has become a part of the CrossFit Bishop community so far!!!  So many of you have made such positive changes in your overall health, fitness, and athleticism that it is  simply staggering to think about.  There has been so much positive change that has occurred over just the past year and a half, and I'm so incredibly proud to be a part of it!  Over the next several years we will all raise our game together, to higher and higher levels with the addition of more coaches, more programs, and hopefully very soon here a second CrossFit facility in the Eastern Sierra!!!

Oh, and by the way...  It's a boy!!!

Yeah, bro, congrats! Hope he's a healthy & happy one!

On the other note, though, I understand and agree with requiring more intro classes, I know I sure would have benefited from them. However, I know of several people who want to start crossfit and who could barely throw down the start up before, and won't be able to afford it at all now. It's a shame it has to be so costly, but I fully support the idea of prepping people better for the challenges crossfit will impose.

Thanks, and yes very exciting to round out the family with a son!!!

Andres, I hear you on the money front. It's all about priorities in the end I think. We'll all do what we really want to do with the time that we have. We just want to offer the very best program and give people the best fitness available on the planet. It is expensive, but just like a CrossFit workout you get out what you put in!!!!

I am 100% behind the idea of fully communicating the foundations of Crossfit with new members, of drilling and drilling and drilling the basic movements of Crossfit before having them incorporate them into workouts at loads that might cause injury (to muscle tisue OR pride!), and of making sure people know the difference between a power snatch and a squat snatch before they do 45 reps of either for example...essentially, of eductaion.

I will be the first to admit that I am nowhere near a master of ANYthing that we do in our workouts. But, I am among those who have the desire and drive to geek out on learning all that I can at home from books, online forums, Youtube, and more experienced athletes. Others do not, and that's fine. This new, elongated system of integration and introduction will undoubtedly catch those who do not seek to educate themselves on their own time, up to those who do. This will ultimately result in an overall increase in body awareness and safety, as well as success w/in the Crossfit 'way of life.'

But, I wonder if a little eliteism is warrented here...rather than an increase in required fees. What if more "element" type classes were offered, and strong suggestions to attend were made, by the coaches, to the people who would benefit from them.?

An example. Sophia moves to town. Injury free and a long time yoga student, she is flexible and mobile. She runs a bit and climbs and perhaps has spent some time in a "normal" gym doing some lifting. She could be fine with a couple of one on ones, then move into Elements, and then after becoming familier w/ unique and complicated movements...boom, she's into the full bore WODs rather quickly. Chester, on the other hand, is, uh, not so fit...but he's motivated and wants to improve his health. Perfect canidate for more one on ones, and an elongated period in Elements. And what about someone who's already into the main WODs, but is having trouble w/ many of the movements, perhaps not seeing improvement, or often complains about pain? I'd say the coaches have a responsibility to convince such a person of the merits of education and stepping down the actual workload until the "machine" was more oiled.

I would be more in favor of a progression of this type...almost entirely at the discretion of the coaches. Tricky thing though, managing egos. I know if I find anything more important than my ego, I'll want it shot and killed immediately! ;)

I guess my point is, it's hard for me to watch people who have been a part of Crossfit for as long as I have, still not know the difference between a snatch and a clean. More initial one on ones will undoubtedly help people learn things like that, but for those who already have a large base of fitness, and a desire to learn on their own (as well as in the gym) it could be more expensive and less efficient perhaps, than a simple progression from one on ones to Elements, to reg. WOD's.

Again, I have tons and tons yet to learn and even more things to improve at...and that's what makes all this tricky. EVERYone is different!

My 2 cents.

Three more things!

I forgot to mention that we are indeed blessed by a comparitively inexpensive Crossfit Gym...I've seen them up to $200/mnth! Yow.

I like what Crossfit San Diego does in regards to experienced people who join...scroll down to " Test Out."

Lastly, I only just now read the new policy under "Schedule and Rates." My above response was only after reading the above notice on today's WOD page. Oops. I really like the way it's written and as it is, it does sound pretty good. I think everyone's goal is to get stronger, faster, more bodily efficient all while having fun and not getting injured! It sounds like your new policy will meet all those goals perfectly...I

& to be honest, I'm almost scared at the prospect of all these potential super athlete's being bred behind closed doors by mad scientists Colin and Pablo, only to be unleashed upon us "old schoolers" with such fury that we will all quit and then join again in order to reap the benefits of the one on ones! hahahahaha!!

here I am talking to myself again....
