Proudly announcing Gavin Delmas as our CrossFitter of the month for June 2010! Gavin was one of the first athletes to join us over in the garage on Clarke Street, and has been devoted and consistent since his first WOD with us. He's the perfect example of what a person can achieve if they stay consistent and motivated on a daily and weekly basis. Thanks Gavin!!!
How old are you? 31
What do you do for work? I'm a Firefighter
How long have you been CrossFitting? 8 Months
How has training at CrossFit Bishop improved your performance in sport and as a firefighter? Exponentially! I saw lots of improvement in strength and endurance when I first started training, then I began to plateau. My issue was nutrition. Thankfully I had Colin and Molly to talk to and help set me on the right track with food. Ever since then I have been on a consistent rise in strength. I keep waiting for the plateau and it's not happening. Every time I ride my bike I'm setting PR's and my average speed keeps increasing. The benefits at work have been tremendous! I don't seem to fatigue as easily anymore. I am able to operate the jaws of life through an entire extrication without having to trade off. My body is able to handle heat better and work for longer periods during fires. I'm not tiring as easily when we get that wonderful patient that wants to fight, and it seems as though my reaction times and split decision making processes are increasing for whatever reason.
What do you do when you're not at CrossFit Bishop or working? Usually I am trying to travel as much as possible, although I have not been able to do much in the last couple of months. I'm looking forward to the snow melting in the back country to do some hiking/fishing this summer.
Favorite WOD? Fran, The only reason is I have to beat that guy in Chico!
What do you love/hate about CF? I love being pushed and seeing the improvements. It's kind of sick to say, but I like the pain. I genuinely hate that CrossFit makes me have to stretch. Anybody that has seen me do that Chicken wing thing with the leg knows why!
If you could be transported to a fantasy world of your choice, where would you go? HaHa this always changes, I guess right now I would like to be on a tropical beach, with my own house, a paleo cook, and surfboards.

Congrats Gavi!!!!
Glide just returned from a long weekend in Reno: Tennis Tournament. Battled my way to the finals and then got gassed out on Sunday. Flippin quads, back and arms were sore from two full days of sprinting, swinging and lunging in the hot sun. By the third day, the final, just didn't have that pop and zing to slap on the ball. I gave my second place trophy to a little kid; told her to take it out back and shoot it. :) Need more torture ya'll. Need more lunges! Need more back and forth muscle stress! More X-fit and longer cardio I"m thikin. Hill repeats anyone???????
Nice Gavin! You deserve this. Your times show tremendous and impressive improvement (RX'd Fran, etc.).
Keith: Way to kill it! I hear you are a tennis badass. And it sounds like it. Stronger! Forward!
For me, functional movement has transfered into being able to pick up my kids quicker or hucking them into the air higher... It is admirable to see, Galvin, how the application of you gains are making such a difference in other lives.
Sorry, Gavin not Galvin... I should really proof read before I post...
Gavin, It's been so great to have you around! I love that you are so psyched and motivated to improve upon everything in your life (diet etc...). I love that Colin has someone he can call last minute to come do an incredibly hard workout with him. He needs that. Keep motivating and inspiring us all!!! Better start working on that handstand walking...
Congrats Gavin! Keep up the hard work.
Way to go Gain. I do have a name though not just "that guy in Chico"
Gavi, Galvin, Gain, Gavin, what's the difference...
In last weeks Economist, there's a semi-decent article on reading sentiment from large masses of anecdotal data (tweets, mainly). jrbkue jrbkue - Discount Belstaff Jacket.
