Testimonials

I love Crossfit Bishop. I am the kind of girl that isn't content with 30 minutes of "cardio" on a bike, or a step aerobics class. I like the full body burn, the opportunity to compete, and most of all the surprise that comes with doing something you didn't think you could do. Crossfit is the master at all of this. Crossfit breaks your body down so it can build back up into a better stronger one. It challenges your mind when you do three more reps than you thought possible. And it teaches your heart all you are capable of. Colin is a great instructor. I’ve never had a personal trainer but it is awesome having someone watching your form so closely, it makes you feel safe knowing that someone is looking out for you during challenging exercises so that you can push yourself a little further. Crossfit Bishop has got Colins intensity and attention to detail, Mollys inspiring fitness and kind spirit, a group of incredibly fun and fit people who are as psyched as you and an adorable baby too. Its certainly one of my favorite places to be in Bishop!!

Crossfit Works!  As a young buck, flush with time to get out in the mountains, I felt strongly that the best training for climbing and backcountry skiing was... climbing and backcountry skiing.  Now I'm by no means the busiest guy, nor do I have the most sedentary job, but I've felt the pinch of time in recent months.  I've spent many days over these busy months with Colin at Crossfit Bishop.   Colin energizes the classes, exudes knowledge and confidence, and successfully walks the fine line between motivation and all out pushing.  I just had my first opportunity in months to test my new Crossfitted bod'.  I can say that the total body training and the fresh, varied workouts make a huge difference!  The strength and endurance gains from Crossfit really shined on a recent one-day, monstrous exploratory ski tour in the High Sierra. I look forward to continuing to train and continuing to express strength gains.

I really appreciate all the dedication, knowledge, and energy you and Molly are so generous in giving. Your trained, focused attention and interest in supporting not only my fitness goals, but maximizing the quality of my performance, keeps me engaged and committed. It is inspiring to be around and has been a great catalyst fueling a new level in my health and fitness. It has always been a priority for me, but sometimes the conditions just have to be right to step up the quality and intensity. I suppose much like a CF workout...So, really, thanks. You guys are providing something very worthy to the Bishop community.

CrossFit is a different kind of fitness program that requires much more than gripping a bar and hammering out concentration curls. The complexity and variety of the movements, coupled with the intensity makes for a compelling system of improving one's physical and mental fitness. This is not accomplished without expert, careful, selfless coaching which Colin Broadwater provides.

"Tabata This!"

Tabata Squat
Rest 1 minute
Tabata Pull-up
Rest 1 minute
Tabata Push-up
Rest 1 minute

So is this:

Row 4 min (20 secs on, 10 off x8)
Squat 4 min (20 secs on, 10 off x8)
Pullups 4 min (20 secs on, 10 off x 8)
Pushups 4 min (20 secs on, 10 off x8)
Situps 4 min (20 secs on, 10 off x8)

Rest 1 min in between each
so a total of 24 min?

Is that right?

Feels great to be back home from our trip to Santa Barbara, first thing I did was check what workouts I had missed.
Awesome workout today!!!! Throw up was definately on it's way, but it never happend. Those 10 seconds seem more like 3,2,1 and back to burning!
After I was all done, I kept putting my face into my arm, cause remember...throw up was on its way and all Paul said was "Welcome Back!"
Thats all he had to say and I got a huge smile on my face

I don't think I like the "score is minimum reps of each round." It's a little bit demotivating. If you have a bad round and you're going for score, then you aren't motivated to rack em up as you go through. It should be all around total reps.

This was brilliant.

That was hard! Plain and simple. My pull-ups quickly turned south as did my push-ups....I am beat.

Everything was fine until half my palm came off on the pullup bar 11-8-6-3riiiiiiiiiippp...

Speaking of hyperbole, while I liked the general tone of that article from AgainFatter.com, I think the guy is pulling our leg. If he has a CrossFitter who is deadlifting 500# and running a mile in 5:00 I think he owes it to the community (and certainly to the athlete) to say who she is. And I'm not knocking a 5 minute mile, but its far from Elite. My burning question for these people (the hyperbolists) is why can't they just leave the results to speak for themselves?

That's my nickle's worth.

I looked forward to this all day and it was all that I wanted it to be! I agree though with Nils, I found myself cheating on like the pulls ups- I didn't want to do more than the smallest number that I had already done. Wasn't that way on my stronger suits like the rowing and (of all things) squats though.

Also like what Annalisa said. After all these workouts once you cool down its so easy to say you should have done more and tried harder. But in the heat of the moment its just not an option all the time.

Ooooh- love the full body burn.

"Don't hate the playa--hate tha game!"

???

The thing about tabata training protocol is that whatever you do needs be performed at 100%. So if by the 4th minute your 100% = 4 pushups or 2 pullups then well done! The number is just a nebulous measure to look at the next time around. Give 100% and let the numbers fall where they may. My situps sucked sucked sucked, but it was all i had. The game element of CrossFit is fun, but should often be ignored in favor of a more physical truth.

February 18, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterChris Gaggia

Of course...But the purpose of scoring should be to motivate exactly that 100%. Otherwise, what's the point of scoring. The score should be all reps. We're dealing with a psychological as well as physical game with the WODs. "In the heat of the moment" if there's a way to avoid that super-burn, then you do it. If at each effort you are rewarded for the fullest effort (scoring total reps) then you keep pushing at every opportunity. That's all I'm saying.
